How cool is this!?

On Oct. 22, 2005, Father Robert Prevost (now Pope Leo XIV) attended Game 1 of the World Series. The game was between the Houston Astros and the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox won this game in their first World Series victory since 1959.

The video of then-Father Robert Prevost surfaced several times over the last year. It circulated again this month after Sox On 35th’s X account published it.

The video of then-Father Prevost generated over 200,000 views, more than 3,000 likes, almost 400 reposts, and several comments. Many people expressed their excitement over the Pope’s attendance at the game.

Here’s how some people reacted:

“Blessed to be one of the 41k in attendance,” one user said.
“So that's why they won…!” another user joked.
“Best Team Pope ever,” someone else added.

John Prevost, one of Pope Leo XIV’s biological brothers, explained in a May 2025 interview clip published by the Chicago White Sox that the pope has “always” been a White Sox fan.

“He was never, ever a Cubs fan, so I don’t know where that came from. He was always a Sox fan,” his brother says in a WGN interview. “Our mother was a Cubs fan…and our dad was a Cardinals fan.”

Let us pray for Pope Leo XIV!
